Cammie G. Henry Research Center: Sam Hill Collection

Sam Hill Collection: Description

The collection was donated to the Archives by Dr. Yvonne Phillips.  The 389-item collection is housed in 116 folders placed in seven boxes.  It contains bills, correspondence, orders, memberships, insurances, etc. which belonged to Arthur R. O'Quinn and John Flowers Hill of Natchitoches.

Of particular interest is the large amount of material in the collection about organizations such as the Elks, National Order of Camels, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and Knights of Pythias.  The collection contains a ledger of the minutes for the Stonewall Lodge, no. 78, Natchitoches, Louisiana, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows from 1897-1912. Museum type articles such as Knights of Pythias pins, etc. also comprise a portion of the collection.
